I propose something. Gen 7JOL.
JOL was created by a French group who thought Smogon’s formats were not accessible enough for cartridge and repetitive. It isn’t very popular, but this is very fun and almost every team are unical. So they made a format following these rules:
- Each Pokémon has points attributed to them, ranging from 1 to the weakest from 10 to the strongest. Teams cannot have over 30 combined points for the whole party member.
This is based on Warhammer Battles fighting style. Another alternative called “15 challenge”
- The “Unical Zone” (UZ) is composed of the Pokémon that haves 8, 9 and 10 points. Players cannot have multiple Pokémon from the UZ in their teams.
The main goal from them was to get away from Smogon and include a tons more viable Pokémon that are considered inferiror when there exists no such restriction. Example Tentacruel who is no longer 100% outclassed by Toxapex.
- Mega Pokémon have different cost than their regular counterpart (duh?). A Pokémon holding its mega stone is considered as a mega in the teambuilding. That count if the Mega Pokémon is in the UZ.
Mainly to avoid using multiple OP megas.
I’LL BE WORKING ON THE TRANSLATION OF THE COST SPREADSHEET IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TRY THIS FORMAT. UNTRANSLATED IS STILL AVALIABLE IF YOU ASK ME.
- Every Pokémon is level 100, but players can decide to play level 50 if they both agree on.
That way, FEAR is banned. No Ratata or Galekid.
For those who don’t know, FEAR stands for Focus sash, Endevor, Quick Attack, Ratata. Or sometimes F*ing Evil Annoyong Rodent. It is cheesing/trolling an opponent (Noob most of the time) with a level 1 Pokémon holding a focus sash.
SPECIAL RUES

Each Rotom form has different cost. Example, Rotom-W (6) and Rotom-M (4). However, only one form is allowed per team, as specified by the species clause.

However, the species clause can be broken since Alolan Pokémon can be played alongside its regular counterpart. As such, having both Ninetails and Alolan Ninetails is allowed.

Due to their limited distribution, DW genies (Landorus, Thundurus and Tornadus) are banned.
Ok, that rule is more because of cartridge accessibility. But hey, not gona complain.
CLAUSES
- Modified Species Clause: No Pokémon having twice the same Pokédex number is allowed, but players can have both Alolan and regular forms of the same Pokémon in their team.
- Sleep Clause: An opponent cannot willignly put 2 opponent Pokémon to sleep. If done by accident, the player must switch as long as his opponent didn’t woke up. Rest isn’t affected by this clause.
- Freeze Clause: Same as the Sleep Clause.
- OHKO Clause: Fissure, Gillotine, Sheer Cold and Horn Drill are banned.
- Evasion clause: Any form if self evasion boost from the likes of Double Team, Minimise, abilities and Z-Moves are banned.
- Moody Clause: Moody and Accupressure are baned.
- Self KO Clause: Honestly, too long to explain. Its about who win of both last Pokémon faint and blah blah blah.
- Endless Battle Clause: Player cannot prevent the opponent from loosing/forteiting. 60 min timer is usualy on.
BANED ABILITIES AND MOVES:
- Shadow Tag is banned.
Shadow Tag is very frustrating and too powerfull too powerfull on their respective Pokémon.
- Multiscale is banned.
“The metagame isn’t aggressive enough” as they say.
- Hidden Power is banned.
Ok, this one is more because of acessibility. Everyone know how much of a PAIN it is to get the right Hidden Power on cartridge. Since we play on showdown, the rule is up to debate.
- Swagger is banned.
Come on, who never raged becasue of it? Morever, the attack boost only increase the damage delt by confusion when hitting itself. If you want to make people rage, use Confuse Ray or Flatter instead!

Only one user of Baton Pass is allowed per team and passing Omniboost is banned. However, a Speed Boost user using Swords Dance can pass its boosts.

Blaziken cannot use Speed Boost, but is allowed when using Blaze.

Megamax is a metagame based on Uber where every Mega Pokémon are considered normal Pokémon. As such, you can play Choice Band Mega Pinsir (Top Tier by the way) and Z-Fire Mega Zard-Y in the same team. Obviously, there is some exceptions.
Or even Stabmon. Every Pokémon has every move (no exceptions) that corresponds to its stab. Have you wanted to play Extreme Keller Snorlax or Diamond Storm Tyranitar? How about Dragon Dance Garchomp and Oblivion Wing Tornadus-T?
