Competitive starter layouts

I guess this could technically go in the Team Discussions, but I figured this isn’t an actual team. These are the starters I normally pick in mainstream games, and I just wanted to make sure that these layouts were good.

Venusaur @ Black Sludge
Ability: Chlorophyll

Quiet Nature

  • Sludge Bomb
  • Weather Ball
  • Growth
  • Solar Beam

Typhlosion @ Typhlosionite
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 HP / 252 Spe
Timid Nature

  • Eruption
  • Fire Blast
  • HP Grass
  • Focus Blast

Blaziken @ Life Orb
Ability: Speed Boost
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spe / 4 HP
Jolly Nature

  • Hone Claws
  • Blaze Kick
  • Hi Jump Kick
  • Baton Pass

Torterra @ Leftovers
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Atk
Adamant Nature

  • Stealth Rocks
  • Wood Hammer
  • Earthquake
  • Rock Slide

Samurott @ Life Orb
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Timid Nature

  • Hydro Pump
  • Ice Beam
  • Aqua Jet
  • Grass Knot

Chesnaught @ Leftovers
Ability: Bulletproof
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Spe / 8 SpA
Calm Nature

  • Substitute
  • Wood Hammer
  • Drain Punch
  • Bulk Up

Venu should have Growth over Synthesis, the ideal would be to have another mons set Sun, like D. Gren, or Rock Ninetales, then it frees you to run Weather Ball, Growth, Sludge Bomb, and Giga Drain/Solar Beam. In this game Typhlosion should have Typhlosionite, ask @PeterHolmes74 for the set. Blaziken has a HIGHER damage output with LO than with mega, else good. You could run Protect for more speed. On Samurott, I think you mean 252 SpA, not Atk. It’s a special attacker. The rest are all good.

Gotcha. But what item for the Venu? By the way, thanks for pointing out that Atk mistake. I did mean SpA.

Yeah, LO works best, though I have seen Black Sludge and Big Root. I’ve also seen Fire weakening berry and Expert Belt.

Do you think I should give it Leftovers then? It has 2 self hurting moves.

Umm, Chesnaut looks fine, you could run Leech Seed and Spikes for a more defensive set, but it looks fine as is. Same with Samurott, not much to say there, as it’s movepool is kinda shallow. Torterra looks good, though I personally don’t like Stone Edge cuz it has terrible accuracy. Rock Slide in my opinion is better, but that’s cuz I prefer reliability over power.
