Why does my Blissey gain more experience than my Latios?

My Blissey and Latios (randomizer) are both holding Exp. Shares, and are both level 50. Neither are being used in battle, and both have my OT. Blissey is getting much more experience - for example, in the last battle, Blissey got 1246 Experience and Latios got 748. Why is Blissey getting more experience? Am I missing something in the Exp formula? I know Blissey gives lots of Experience, but I didn’t think it gained any more than usual.

EDIT: Now Blissey is 51 and Latios is 50, the Exp from the last two fights has been 311 to Blissey and 191 to Latios and 940 to Blissey and 576 to Latios.

some pokemon (such as legendaries) earn exp more slowly than others.

Basically Pokemon have different growth speeds and legendary pokemon such as Latios have a "slow’ growth rate while Blissey has a “fast” growth rate which means it will gain more exp than Latios. If you want more info you can find it here: http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/blissey and here http://pokemondb.net/pokedex/latios

Don’t the growth speeds just change the Exp. required to level up, rather than the Exp. gained?

No they just effect the exp gained not the amount they need.

You are correct. If you read bulbapedia’s article on Experiene and Experience gain, you’ll see that the only time where a Pokemon’s species comes into play is when using your opponent’s Pokemon to determine how much experience they give you after defeating them. Growth rate determines how much Exp is needed per level, not how much Exp a Pokemon should receive.

For the sake of confirmation I tested this with a level 17 Croagunk and level 17 Lampent (Medium Fast and Medium Slow leveling rates respectively) and found that after “defeating” level 10 Audino, both of them gained 453 Exp. However, Croagunk still leveled faster due to its required Exp per level being lower due to its faster leveling rate. Once Croagunk hits level 18 and Lampent remains at level 17, it begins to receive less Exp per Audino compared to Lampent since this game still uses the Exp system in Gen V.

I have no explanation for why what you experienced would happen given the information provided unless there is something in the code which reduces the Exp gain of Legendaries for some odd reason.

EDIT: Tested this with Thundurus and Haxorus at level 71 each and both of them received the same amount of Exp. Unless this phenomenon singles out Latios specifically, I still have no idea why what is occurring would occur.

So Deuk looked into this and it looks like Pokemon Essentials, for whatever reason, gave Chansey and Blissey a 66% boost in their EXP gain. I don’t know if that’s really something that’s important enough to be fixed but at least you have your answer now.

As a side note, according to Gen V’s EXP gain formula, it looks like the Audino trainer isn’t registering as a trainer battle based on what should be received from plugging everything into the equation, so everyone is getting less EXP than they should. Still need to look into why that’s happening.
