Not exactly. Just a hunt for one pokemon. Any one that you want but you only can hunt on weekends.

If you get the shiny first, you win!

If you find a shiny, you are the one who benefits.

so to recap:

Create a new save file
Shiny hunt only on saturdays and sundays
The first one to get a shiny wins

with these rules everyone is going to go for the starters.

Not exactly.
Create a new save or if you have a save without a shiny charm, use that.
Hunt on FRIDAYS, saturdays, and sundays.
Progress for a mon that you want to hunt on weekdays.
And first one gets one wins.
