I just downloaded the game and it started up fine, but after I chose my character’s name/look my game freezes in the very beginning when Gengar is by my bed right before Mew comes. Background music is still playing fine, it’s just the display that is frozen. Has anyone encountered this problem yet/know of a solution?
You mean you can’t move your character only, or you can’t do everything else at all? Like opening the game menu, pressing the autorun key S, autosave key F, map refreshing P, etc.
I can’t do anything at all. The game freezes and I can’t even drag the window around.
Are you using Windows or Mac? and which version.

Try running the game as an Admin, in Compatibility mode “windows xp sp3”, or wait for it 10-30 mins to load.
If that doesn’t help, might be an issue with your pc, like the cpu. But I’m not really an expert on those kinda stuff.
Try reinstalling/updating your audio drivers
