Shiny rayquaza

New to shiny hunting if i want shiny rayquaza do i just restart game next to the rayquaza? Also will he be shiny outside of battle or do i have to go in battle to see if hes shiny

1- You can save next to the pokemon to make the softresets faster

2- The overworld sprite will always have the non shiny colors, you have to go in battle to check if it is a shiny,
