Shiny hunting static encounters

Hi guys, I’m trying to shiny hunt delta munchlax, and I was wondering, do I have to soft reset back to outside the grotto every time or can I do it right in front of the munchlax? In other words, is the shiny determined when you enter the grotto or when you actually start the battle? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m new to soft resetting and I don’t want to mess it up.

Welcome, in response to your question:

  1. For static encounters in this game, you can check if a pokemon is shiny when you start the battle, so you can save next to the pokemon inside the grotto without worries.

  2. Is not a stupid question so don´t feel sorry.
