Hi, i just started playing pokemon recently and decided to try competitive battle.
Well my main core is gonna be a Charizard X (physical sweeper build)
Currently i have an Adamant Charizard with max IV except for SpA, and has DD, Dragon Claw, Flare Blitz and Rock Slide. I plan to change Rock Slide to roost when the TM comes out. So i have a few team members which i would like to put in my team. They are:
Rotom-W
Excadrill
Tyranitar
Ferrothorn
Snorlax
Greninja
Talonflame
Chansey
Azumarill
Breloom
Smeargle
Greninja
Dragonite
Salamance
Togekiss
Magnezone
If u guys have better pokemon to suggest to put in the team please suggest.
greninja is a good revenge killer right? hmm, what egg moves does greninja need?
and what nature, eggmove and ability does togekiss need?
cause im planning to use my iv stones to trade for them
You can either do a special greninja or a phys greninja, and I might assault vest it if you are not using any non-damaging moves or rocky helmet/choice band if you want to do a quick revenge kill w/ a U-Turn. My team (in the sim) has a protean Greninga w/ U-Turn, waterfall, gunk shot and ice punch (Adamant nature and rocky helmet). My togekiss has extrasensory, zen headbutt, tri attack and signal beam (Timid nature and King’s rock). I named it Togeflinch.
If you intend to use that team in Insurgence then you need to get the Move Tutor for Knock off and all the TMs you need for Rotom-W, since Rotom-W cannot learn TMs by breeding.
Excadrill is only good with double STAB. It gets Earthquake through level up, but Iron Head is also a tutor move and the next best option is Metal Claw, which is pretty bad in my opinion.
Something that’s a bit weird about your team is how the roles are split. I’m no expert in competitive battling, but what I see there is Mega Charizard X (which I believe is not available at all in the current version of the game) which is a physical set up sweeper, Azumarill, which is a set up physical sweeper and Excadrill, which is also a set up physical sweeper if you put Swords Dance on it or just a heavy hitter if you go for Scarf or Band. Otherwise Rotom is a good physical tank, Ferrothorn is a good Physical Tank and then you get destroyed by good special sweepers. Clefable is a good pick since it is a pretty good special wall, but it’s a Fairy type which you already have in Azumarill and type diversity, while not necessary, helps teams a lot in certain scenarios. The fact that Azumarill + Rotom and Azumarill + Clefable have the same type might leave you weak to certain things.
For Ferrothorn I just recommend a support set with Leech Seed and hazards (spikes, stealth rocks) and maybe an attacking move like Gyro Ball or Power Whip. On Ferrothorn Rocky Helmet or Leftovers are the best items.
Clefable is especially easy to make since you can get a really good set just by leveling up (Cosmic Power, Moonblast, Moonlight and Stored Power with the option of Calm Mind as a TM) but something as simple as Umbreon or Dragalge might fit the team a lot better as a special tank.
Hey no worries man. I just started recently and i really appreciate ur insights. TBH, i dont even know what my poke roles are and how to split the roles. Well, i heard that after the next update, all TMs and Move Tutor will be available. So im just gathering suggestions right now and use my iv stones to trade for those poke that u guys suggested since im bad in breeding. Do u mind building me a balance Char X team?
I’m not that good at team building, I could tell you what I have on my teams and maybe you can get some inspiration from there but my teams were built to beat the game, not to go online (the sets are good enough for competitive but they are meant to destroy NPCs).
The combination I love and I think is very strong is Armor Tyranitar (either Dragon Dance 3 attacks or Curse Payback) to set up a Sand Storm + Aegislash + Diggersby/Gliscor/Nidoking. Armor looks like a very powerful item for Tyranitar, boosting it’s already great defensive stats by 1.3x and having 2 other things not getting hurt by the sand seems great, especially in a hyper offensive team (sand weakens the enemy team). I don’t know if it’s a viable consideration, but I like to keep the number of special and physical attackers on my team even, so I don’t get walled easily if I lose an important physical/special mon and Aegislash is great for that balance since it can be special, physical or mixed (special Aegislash is pretty good with Shadow Sneak). Life Orb Sheer Force Nidoking with 4 attacks is just a very versatille mon, being able to deliver some pretty strong hits to pretty much everything. Banded Huge Power Diggersby hits like a truck, even with just a Life Orb, a neutral Earthquake can kill frail Pokemon very easily. Gliscor is a good physical wall with a lot of good recovery (Roost + Poison Heal) and a GREAT movepool to choose from (Earthquake, Knock Off, U-Turn, Defog, Stealth Rocks, Swords Dance, all the elemental fangs, Toxic, Protect). Scizor is also good, either as a Defog Support with Roost and U-Turn + Bullet Punch or as a sweeper (needs Knock Off move tutor but works with Pursuit/Thief) with choice band or Life Orb Adamant. Breloom is pretty good with Spore, Swords Dance, Bullet Seed and Force Palm/Mach Punch (Palm for Jolly, Mach for Adamant) and Technician. A great special mon is Volcarona with Quiver Dance. In game Volcarona is A LOT better than in competitive, because it is very rare for an NPC to use Stealth Rocks on their team, but with Scizor/Gliscor with Defog it’s still fine. As special attackers you also have Gengar (great movepool, hits hard with Specs and it’s fast), Slowbro (Great physical tank, good recovery, can set up, great ability - Regenerator, good overall) and Togekiss (Paraflinch can always win games for you, especially if you get the time to set up a nasty Plot).
Well… If you want any of the Pokemon I listed, I could trade them all to you if I have a leftover one. I would be interested in one or more Mysterious Scrolls (if you are willing to trade them away) or an IV stone for all. I know there are posts out there that offer the same, but I might as well try to get a good trade.
Those are good moves for a Mega Gengar. If you want to use Mega Charizard on the same team as that I just recommend a Gengar with Sludge Bomb, but I could probably get a Timid Perish Song Disable Gastly in like 15 minutes. With good IVs it’d take me like 30 minutes.
I got a full box of Timid Gastlys with good IVs and Sludge Bomb btw, but not Perish Disable. Perish Disable are egg moves, so it wouldn’t be hard to slap them onto a Gastly.
