Based on this Fonteart design. I could go with just increasing Nidoking’s stats according to his most common use (while trying to stick to his original spread), leaving us with:
I was actually wondering what would be the appropriate changes/stat increases for a Mega Nidoking? Since I’m not very knowledgeable on competitive battling, I’d like to see what stat spreads, typing and ideas would be actually appropriate for Pokemon in general and Insurgence in particular. Or maybe just things to spice up the metagame.
125 SpAtk with Sheer Force is actually slightly weaker than 85 SpAtk Life Orb Sheer Force.
Therefore, he only gets a Speed and overall Defense boost when Mega Evolving.
Making it overall not worth the Mega Slot imo.
The Problem is, that the normal build of Nidoking with Life Orb and Sheer Force has already a lot of synergy which the mega stone takes away.
So you could swap the stats and give him more speed and less attack.
However, Nidoking has a great coverage, making it hard for anything to switch in and with a too much Speed he might be overpowered.
Maybe a different ability is therefore better:
Arena Trap, Adaptability, Mold Breaker, a physical Build with pure Power might be cool or Sand Rush.
I know, I wanted to make it a tradeoff without making him too Attack/Special Attack oriented (its not like he will have 2 megas a la Charizard/Mewtwo).
The problem with changing his ability is that know he’ll see his offenses reduced even further than his non-Mega counterpart and Adaptability takes away part of his coverage advantage. I’d suppose I could consider Protean too.
Honestly although I like the idea of making him a physical counterpart to the standard Nido’s special uses, I’d prefer some method more in keeping with his dual uses.
