So I decided to enter, and what else to write about than the Magikarp Solo Run I recently did in Pokémon Zeta.

“Come on Girion!” I shouted across the cave to Girion, my Magikarp, who was facing a horde of seven Makuhita. “Tackle the one on your left!” I ordered. The red fish pokĂ©mon complied and swept the Makuhita right off its feet and into a rock, knocking it out cold. “Great! Now the one on the right!” Girion again did as ordered and knocked over the Makuhita hard. Although this one did not faint, it still struggled to get up. By now the remaining Makuhitas had formed a circle around the Magikarp. I smirked. This had happened before. “Girion, USE SPLASH!”

With that command, Girion lept up in the air, up and up he went. When he reached the cave ceiling he used his tail as a spring and sent himself speeding back down again, right onto a Makuhita, pushing it several inches into the ground and knocking it out. The Magikarp then used the Makuhita’s unconscious body as a spring pad and leapt away from the remaining five Makuhita before they could punch him.

“Yeah, Girion, it’s going great! Now use Tackle!” With that, Girion leapt at a Makuhita that hadn’t been able to turn around and smashed it into a large rock. It didn’t stand up again. The remaining four Makuhita were now more wary, keeping away from Girion. Suddenly I saw them start focusing their eyes on the Magikarp. They completely stopped paying attention to anything else than the fish pokĂ©mon in front of them. “Look out Girion! Don’t let them hit you! Use Tackle!” Girion shot himself at one of the Makuhita, knocking it back several feet, but it kept standing and hit back with a Tackle, hitting Girion across the cave.

The rest of the Makuhita started closing in on the Magikarp. I knew that it would be hard to beat them all, but we had to try. “Girion, use Splash!” Girion leapt up into the air once more, coming down on one of the Makuhita. I saw what would happen before it did. The Makuhita he was aiming at kept its eyes on the falling Magikarp, “No Girion! Stop!” But it was too late. Just before it was hit by the Magikarp the Makuhita’s hand shot up and grabbed Girion’s tail fin. He tried to get loose, but no matter how much he struggled the Makuhita would not let him go. The other Makuhita came over and started punching at the flailing fish pokĂ©mon, each hit doing heavy damage. I could only look, and by the time I thought to return him he was blocked from my view by the four Makuhita. I tried to get closer, to get the Makuhita off him, but even though Makuhita are not that big they are strong. One of them hit me with a single punch which sent me flying and landing hard on the cave floor.

I couldn’t believe it. After all we had been through, this could be the end. He had been given to me on my seventh birthday, and nine years later when I had to leave my starter was obvious. We had gone through trouble in the forest on the way here, but we had persevered. And after all that, he would be ended by a horde of Makuhita. “Girion
” I moaned, still hurting from the punch. Suddenly there came a bright white glow from the ring of Makuhita. I saw something huge stretch up from the middle of them, glowing with that light, and the Makuhita suddenly started running away as fast as their little legs could carry them. And then the Thing solidified into a huge bright blue water serpent with teeth as long as my forearm, so long that it could stretch halfway across the cave. With one slap of its tail it sent all four Makuhita slamming into a wall, before coming towards me. But I wasn’t scared. “Girion!” My little Magikarp, no, Gyarados, came sliding towards me, a huge grin on both of our faces. He stopped a few feet in front of me and I hugged him so hard that it would have been painful if he was still a Magikarp. After a few minutes I let go and we started going toward to exit, the grin still on my face. No matter the trouble, I could always overcome them with Girion by my side.

I’m guessing that you actually lost the horde battle against the Makuhita

Not actually a horde battle, since those didn’t exist. That was just for exitement in the story. But I did grind against a lot of Makuhita and lost against quite a few of them.

I present the holy epic of Magikarp
