How do I return to the Nightmare Badlands

I went to where the portal was during the story and it’s gone, and no matter how hard I look, I can’t seem to find it anywhere

Yes, you can go back from route 5, but first you need to beat the Pokemon League and while playing the post game, you will get the Hiking Boots.
When you get that item you are able to go back to the Nightmare Badlands.

ok, thank you, you would also need the magic carpet from Holon to get there but thankfully I did that already
