Help a newbie build a decent team

Trying to put together my first well rounded team. Never really got into the metagame for pokemon but Suze’s comments about the elite four and victory road have me nervous so i want to build a good team before the update comes out. I’m going to start a team around talonflame, manectric, ttar, and azumarill. help coach me through this, what else should I add, how should i develop these mons so that they’re actually good?? thanks guys!

I would recommend a excadrill. It goes well with tyranitar.

Have a look at smogon.com for good builds for your pokemon and good options to go around them! Landorus-T/Scizor go really well with manectric to form a VoltTurn combination. Excadrill is good too to take advantage of Ttar’s sand. It depends if you want a team just for the game or for the the sim!

Sandrush Excadrill goes will with you Tyranitar.
Not sure if the Tyranitar you are using is mega or not though, if not make it armor, and add M-Venusaur \ M-D-Venusaur \ M-Altaria to your team. If it is mega, you can use Garchomp \ Clefable \ Gliscor. imo.

Excadrill and T-tar work well together as already mentioned, but if you add Excadrill you will have a lot of weakness to ground + water with at least 3 pokemon being weak to those. If you’re not opposed to changing your pokemon a bit, you could replace Talonflame with Togekiss and Manectric with Wash-Rotom. This will reduce both your water and ground weakness to 2 pokemon with T-tar and Excadrill. Since you’d have a water and fairy type in Wash-Rotom and Togekiss, you could replace Azumarill with Delta Snorlax (Thick Fat ability). The last spot should probably go to a revenge killer, anything with high power and speed, Gengar would work well. Team could still be weak to Mold Breaker pokemon so you might want to keep that in mind as Wash-Rotom and Gengar both have immunity to ground via Levitate.

i think i’m going to ditch the manectric. id like to keep the azmarill. any advice from there? i can ditch the ttar too, I’ve already started working on a talonflame so I guess thats what I want to build around

If you have Sandstream T-tar, add Sand Rush Excadrill. For other 2 spots, could go with a Delta Snorlax or Breloom (Technician) to get a fighting type on team, both function well but I would say go for Breloom if you don’t have any electric type on team or Delta Snorlax if you do end up picking an electric type for 6th spot. Eelektross has Levitate and 0 weaknesses so that’s an option so you don’t add more ground weakness to team, but most of its useful moves are from move tutors which haven’t been released yet. Another option could be a Frost-Rotom, not as good as Wash-Rotom but has Levitate and would give you an ice/electric stab combo. Otherwise Gengar is still a really good option and a really powerful mega.

Electric types would help Delta Snorlax set up Belly Drum and heal with Synthesis as they have access to Livewire/Thunder Wave and can Volt Switch into D. Snorlax which easily sweeps most pokemon with Crunch/Leaf Blade after Belly Drum. But if you don’t have an electric type, go with Breloom with Spore/Bullet Seed/Mach Punch/Swords Dance. Gengar is a good option for a mega but if you decide to add Eelektross/Frost-Rotom for 6th pokemon, you can use T-tar as an offensive D-Dance and mega on your team.

well u better manetric only learn a special attack move at a high level and it’s attack stat isnt so good
