Heatmor - Ur-Didact: Okay, bear with me, this one goes quite deep. First, this is a character from the Halo universe, a Forerunner and Promethean. The scientific classification for the silky anteater is Cyclopes didactylus. But further, the Forerunners were/are an alien species who were often found in armour because their natural bodies are quite frail - the connection here is Heatmor which is a combo of Heat and Armour. The Ur-Didact was responsible for activating the original Halo rings, destroying the Flood, parasitic/bug-like virus, which also connects to Heatmors loving to eat/exterminate Durants.
Spiritomb - BlackDeath: First time Spiritomb appears in the Manga is in āRing Around the Roseradeā, which is a play on words to the song Ring Around the Rosie, which is really a song about the Black Plague/Black Death in Europe. Further more, Spiritiombās essence is in death, specifically the 108 souls trapped etc. Also similar to itās typing, Dark/Ghost (Black and Death).
Empoleon - Kuzcodytes: Combination of Kuzco from Emperorās New Groove, and the scientific name for the Emperor penguin, Aptenodytes forsteri. I normally donāt go for combinations unless they sound catchy or roll off the tongue, which this does.
Bidoof - Norbert: Way way back when Nickelodeon was still awesome there was a show called Angry Beavers about two brothers. Norbert is the older beaver āwith a habit of performing great feats of impeccable engineering with aplomb and without explanation and often lazy.ā (wikipedia)
Eevee - Animorph: This was insanely popular when I was growing up (and even had a short run at a TV series with Shawn Ashcomb aka Ice Man in X-Men 2-3) about a group of kids who could collect DNA of animals and morph into them, Eevee being the only pokemon that can morph into multiple forms each one being completely different - Arceus doesnāt count because he just changes type instead of actual forms changing.
Leafeon - Takegokeon: Derived from the combination of three things. Takakia, a genus of moss found in central and eastern Asia, named after Dr. Takaki in Japan. The Japanese name for this is nanjamonja-goke, being the second part of the name, and of course āeonā comprising the standard suffix for all Eeveelutions.
Zebstrika - Brontear: Combination of Bronte, one of the steeds of Greek god Helios, the one of Thunder. And Blue Ear (Zebstrikas have blue ears), a special Marvel superhero created for a child who didnāt want to wear hearing aids because superheroes donāt wear them. Marvel responded by creating Blue Ear, a hero with a hearing aid. (Which is pretty frikkin awesome)
Honchcrow - Honchkray: So everyone knows the notorious reputation of Honchcrows looking like mob bosses, and one of the biggest were the Kray twins in london (there was a movie about them not too long ago, and let me tell you, they were legit craycray). Kray also sounds like Crow. They were born in Hoxton, East London, which has similar sound to Honch. Additionally, the fact that Honchcrow āwearsā a Fedora is also represented by the Kray twins, as theyāre responsible for the killing of another famous mobster, Jack āthe Hatā McVitie.
Keldeo - 4thKeteer: Keldeo is one of the Swords of Justice, based on the Three Musketeers, where a fourth member, younger than the rest, joins the group. The same is true for Keldeo when he is taken in by the other three Swords.
Kricketot - Jiminy C: the most famous cartoon cricket of all time, he sings When You Wish Upon A Star, one of the greatest Disney songs of all time.
