Sorry I have to vent it here. I eventually won but I have to say that final battle where you are forced to team up with NORA is probably the WORST fight in the entire game. I am sure there are easier ways to do it but I didn’t have one of them.
So you have Nora who for this particular battle selected three pokemon who are weak to most of the enemy’s roster who is 6-9 levels below her opponent (Duoblade, Celebi, and Mega Flygon)
So you have to take down the opponent’s pokemon before he kills Nora and double teams you.
With his team of Semi-Legendaries and Legendary Pokémon… Which are a tough battle all on their own.
I think he does have a point though. The problem with this fight isn’t necessarily that it’s challenging, it’s that it conflicts heavily with the narrative. Because of her team’s weaknesses, when I played through this her first Pokemon usually died turn 1 before attacking, and her 2nd died usually around turn 3 depending on RNG and what I did.
In this fight you either can sweep the enemy team without too much trouble (in which case it would have just been easier to do it 1v1), or you can not and you are quickly put into a 2v1 situation that becomes very frustrating to play.
As the player, the fight really didn’t make me feel like I was in an awesome battle against these super powerful legendary Pokemon, it just made me feel resentment towards Nora for being there at all. I don’t think this accomplishes what the story is trying to with regards to the player’s relationships with the other characters, and it certainly doesn’t help me immerse and enjoy the battle at hand.
There’s no problem with the onus being on the player for winning the battle, but I feel that the Pokemon that Nora uses should be adjusted so that this fight is more engaging to the player. As it stands, I don’t think it’s a healthy fight because of how fast the player is put in to the 2v1 situation as Nora runs out of Pokemon.
I have to agree. I trained up ahead of time so I could pick up the slack for her, but I still almost lost to Mega Typhlosion. RNG was merciful with Empoleon, at least.
Is it possible Nora can have a full team, or is that limited by the software or something like that?
I like this battle. It made me think for a few minutes about what I needed to do to win, where most other battles were easy despite hard mode being on. Well, except that carvanha that killed everything before hard mode was a thing. Anyway, what I mean to say is that this is the only battle that I’ve had in insurgence where I had to spend time thinking of a strategy and I like it as a result.
I mean Nora never really had a place in my heart as “my rival”. With the abrupt meeting into being one of the “chosen” people, if I formed any bond with her, it was a bond of “oh my god she is annoying”.
Do you think that’s good game design though? If we’re supposed to take her seriously as a Rival than the game needs to help us do that. I think this is a clear situation where changing the game play for this fight can have a positive effect on the story with specific regards to the Nora/PC Rivalry.
Just because she’s weak in one battle doesn’t really change my thoughts on “Oh she’s a pretty good trainer”. I know people have had hard times on the battle with her at metchi, so if anything this kinda shows your improvement throughout your journey too. It also emphasizes how strong Taen is, which he is supposed to be. Honestly I don’t think just because of this one battle it warrants saying that its bad game design, when its just complaining that the battle gets harder because Nora doesn’t do well. It didn’t phase my thoughts of her (not that they were very good in the first place), so I saw no problem with her being there. She tanks a few hits, she does some things, and honestly thats good enough for me.
To be honest Fel… I am not under the impression your supposed to get the idea that she is good or even competent.
I get the idea that she is supposed to be an overconfident jerk who picks on Damian to hide her own insecurities. Heck she is one of the people responsible for Damian leaving due to her constant harassment. All leading to the Taen battle where she is nothing but the noose around the player’s neck.
While Damian is someone everyone picks on for being incompetent and a good for nothing, yet is in essence one of the best battlers around but unproven. Leading to him taking down one of the major cults and his mother without a second glance which is something no ordinary person could have done.
In otherwords Damian and Nora are story opposites. Nora is overblown but incompetent. Damian is trodden upon yet amazing.
Then again… I never got a competent vibe from Nora. Even when I had trouble in my fight against her the first time.
If that’s what suze intended then well, he did a good job. Tbh I don’t like damian either because of how bad he is at reading the atmosphere. Note the two times we get into trouble, is because of Damian fucking up. Now that he’s a monster though, he might show something off though. Who knows.
maybe it was something that Suze implemented on purpose.Like think about it; what kind of fight would be more difficult; a 2vs2 or an insane 1vs2 ,especially against legendaries.Obvioisly the latter. And the only way to do that would be to put you in 2vs2 round but then remove the side benefit and make it into an overwhelmingly tough yet challenging battle
I sweeped him with D.Gard, just took a some resets for him to not go through my Double Team. and for him to not get crit. with my second safe file, i had trouble in the beginning because of missing core teammates, but so far lategame is fairly easy. Just requires some decent rng. (Pls dont crit my alakazam with 8x Calm mind with a hydropump and one shot it ;~; ), but i think it will be easy with a decent ground type like exacdrill. In my opinion though, that fight isnt hard. Its just unfair, a 2vs2 with my own pokemon would be fun. But with nora is just plain annoying. A 2vs2 with damian would also be fun.
(Also, why do Damian and Nora use their legendary pokemon in battle when we cant D:<)
