Analyzing Delta Pidgeot

Pretty interesting Pokemon. Let’s get right into the analysis.

Typing: Dark/Dragon - Pretty bad overall. It has a psychic immunity and a resistance to Fire, Grass, Water, Ghost, Dark, and Electric. However, it has a 4x weakness to Fairy which is horrible, and has a weakness to Bug, Ice, Dragon, and Fighting which are all pretty prevalent types.

Ability:

  1. Intimidate - When it enters battle it lowers adjacent opponents attack by 1 stage. Fantastic ability overall as it gets it before and after mega evo which can lead to a -2 attack drop. Better typically in doubles.
  2. Marvel Scale - When the Pokemon has a status condition, its defense increases by 50%. Decent ability, but not really that useful in general.
  3. Early Bird - Pokemon awakes from sleep quickly. Really not that useful, I don’t see it getting any competitive viability.

Stats:
HP: 83
Atk: 80
Def: 75 (80)
SpA: 70 (135)
SpD: 70 (80)
Spe: 101 (121)

Pretty great stats overall. It has a great special attack and speed attack with mediocre decent defenses. Good for an offensive mega. Without mega, it could be used as a physical attacker, though I do not recommend it.

Moveset:

For status moves, it gets some great moves. It gets Dragon Dance, Roost, Glare, Medusa Ray, Dragonify, which can all somewhat be used. Tailwind and Wildfire are also strong for doubles.

For physical moves (though I don’t recommend using non mega), it has a pretty good array of moves. It gets Outrage/Dragon Claw/Draco Jet for STAB. It also gets Foul Play/Sucker Punch/Knock Off/Pursuit. It also gets Earthquake, Rock Slide, Superpower and Pluck/Sky Drop, and U-turn which is great.

For special moves it’s somewhat lacking. It gets Dark Pulse/Lunar Cannon/Dark Matter/Snarl for dark STAB and Dragon Pulse/Draco Meteor for dragon STAB. It also gets Sludge Wave, Heat Wave, Giga Drain, Air Cutter, etc.

Now, let’s get into the sets.

Mega D. Pidgeot

Delta Pidgeot @ Delta Pidgeotite
Ability: Intimidate (Intimidate)
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 SpA, 4 Def, 252 Spe

  • Draco Meteor
  • Dark Pulse
  • Fire Blast
  • U-Turn / Sludge Bomb / Giga Drain
Set Notes: Preferably use as a revenge killer and get the -2 physical attack on ur opponent due to intimidate. You could U-turn out or use the other moves as you see fit.
Doubles Support

Delta Pidgeot @ Delta Pidgeotite
Ability: Intimidate (Intimidate)
Timid Nature
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 Spe

  • Draco Meteor
  • Tailwind
  • U-turn / Snarl
  • Roost / Wildfire
Set Notes: Good tailwind setter coupled with intimidate. Heat Wave, could be used, or Leer could as well. It cold also simply use the other offensive set with Sludge Wave instead. Wildfire is also really good, and so is Snarl.
Dragon Dance

Delta Pidgeot @ Life Orb
Ability: Intimidate
Adamant Nature
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe

  • Dragon Dance
  • Outrage / Dragon Claw
  • Knock Off / U-turn / Stone Edge
  • Earthquake
Set Notes: Set up with Dragon Dance and go from there. It is pretty hard to set up because of its typing, but on a neutral target with Intimidate it can be good.
Other Options

Not sure if any other sets really make sense. You could use a gimmick set with Medusa Ray and Dragonify, though I am not sure if it makes sense. You could also use a Pidgeotto set with Eviolite, but I do not recommend a defensive set due to its EV spread and typing.

Let me know what you think about the analysis and if you have any other options. Thanks!

I feel like Delta Pidgeot also has some use in a marvel scale user to pivot around with u-turn, potentially set up tailwind, spread paralysis, and maybe even use wildfire. Foul Play, Knock Off, or snarl would probably be the best moves for some STAB action, and it could also run roost for quick recovery.
