Shadow Ball is a viable alternative IV you don’t have 2+ status spreader on your team / isn’t using a rain team with livewire. Other option includes Earth Power to deal with Rock Types, his only weakness when primal.

I use a special set with Shadow Ball/Hex, Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, and coverage. You can run defensive Toxic Hex sets.
