I am around 8.5k soft resets in and still haven’t seen a single shiny.
So obviously I am fuming ahhah.

And what problem did your save have?

I don’t know, something about the ring algorithm being messed up or smth. But you’ll get it mate. Perseverance is gonna get you far.

I have a macro that does it for me!!!
So I have the macro running on my laptop whilst I work/study on my desktop 
1 encounter takes ~15seconds, so 4 encounters a minute,
60 minutes in an hour, so ~240 encounters an hour,
I run the macro for about 10 hours a day, so ~2400 encounters a day!
The macro does the soft reset then selects the save file, I am stood in front of Charmander in the grotto, so the macro just clicks enter. I then have the encounter, the macro pauses for ~5secs so I can check if the Charmander is shiny. If it is, I will abort the macro, if not, the macro soft resets and goes again!
the whole process is~15 secs long
UPDATE:
12K soft resets in, still inside the hidden grotto, stood in front of Charmander, and still no shiny 
Well, using macro is technically called cheating, so you’re probably trade banned by now

I can officially confirm that it is possible to get a shiny in a hidden grotto by standing in front and soft resetting!!!
~13.4k soft resets in total
